You hate the truth but his age is the gimmick. The guitarists in the background on stage, the session musicians are 100% better than him at playing and more consistent. But they're not elderly and don't have an interesting story.

He’s not even that old man. He’s 59, which is 5 years older than Dave Grohl and 14 years younger than Springsteen. Same age as the guys in Metallica basically.

He's phenomenal. Even for a show filled with talented individuals, he stands out. I think any negative reference to his age is ridiculous. Aside from being insanely talented, there is something incredible about the visual contrast of this unassuming elderly man shredding and rocking out like this. Would be a damn shame if he doesn't advance or, at the very least, come out of this with some recording contract / concert tour.

John is my music teacher and along with another lovely teacher called Bob they encouraged me to persue singing,he’s absolutely phenomenal.Simon can’t cope with his skills ✋

He's an excellent musician. The audience knew it. I doubt one of them gave him a pity ovation. They roared, stood, and applauded his performance because he's superb! Shame on the judges for ageist comments.

I agree that Simon is in the wrong but I hate when people say “Well you couldn’t do any better” because I bet you couldn’t do better than one of your least favorite singers, make one of your least favorite movies better, or play better than the worst Major league sports player. And I’m not saying I could do better then you, but people are allowed to dislike things/people despite being worse at that
