Interesting that they made a show of traditional chinese face changing. If anyone is unaware there is a performance commonly done around new years in china which involves different masks, face changers perform a story where one person plays many roles, iirc, usually around 4 and each of these masks represent another character. The performer can seamlessly swap the masks like magic, and its very interesting to watch. Its traditonally called Bian Lian.

Actually its a very old face changing mask art from china. I guess it was creative to make it the Judges’s faces. Idk if “on another level”. This one didnt really impress me tbh. I have just seen some pretty amazing mask change performers & this wasnt at that level

Sichuan Opera was formed in the mid-Qing Dynasty (around 1736-1795). It is a traditional folk art, which is popular among area like Sichuan, Chongqing, Yunnan, and Guizhou etc. Sichuan Opera is well known for face-changing, which is a central component of the performance. Lianpu (painted face) shows the statuses, appearances, and characteristics of different roles in the play. People used hard paper and soft paper to make lianpu in ancient times. Now people use silk to make mask, which is more convenient for the actors. During the show, actors change more than 10 masks in a very short time. There are three types of face changes, which are wiping mask, blowing mask, and pulling mask. Some actors also use Qigong movements when changing faces.
